How to make your summer wardrobe work for autumn

Jenny Mullan

Here at Libra Clothing, we take great pride in producing collections that work for every season. The need to buy clothes which can easily be worn at anytime of the year is becoming more popular and we’re pleased to say we meet this demand. There’s no denying that some things are seasonal. A faux-fur jacket and over-the-knee boots are definitely better reserved for the latter half of the year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t rework your summer wardrobe for autumn. So with this in mind, here are 7 hacks to help you transition your summer wardrobe to autumn.

Just add tights

When the days become chillier, a quick fix to stay warm is to add tights. The addition of tights to your look affords you the chance to experiment with colour, texture and pattern. Whether you opt for simple classic nude tights, or go bold with a statement pair, these saviours can easily help adapt your summer wardrobe to autumn.

Layer long over lean

An obvious one, maybe, but layers are crucial for fall. Not only is layering a major trend, it’s functional too. By layering key pieces, you’re protecting yourself from autumn’s unpredictable elements. So how exactly do you layer? Look to the ‘Layer long over lean’ rule. What this means is that longer-length tops or even dresses should be paired with leaner bottoms such as leggings or skinny jeans. This helps avoid your outfit becoming bulky.

Buy boots

Again, a simple but effective way to instantly make your look scream autumn, is with the addition of ankle boots. A stand-out trend for the season, ankle boots paired with a dress is always a winner. Plus, these can be worn with everything, from skirts to trousers, making it a breeze to transition your look from summer to autumn.

Choose a statement jacket

While much of autumn might be spent wrapped up in layers, a statement jacket will keep your look far from boring. Adding a jacket can have a major impact on the overall vibe of your outfit, helping eclipse summer prints and fabrics and therefore making them more season-appropriate.

Pair with deeper hues

The great thing about the summer season is that much of the clothing is centred around patterns, and with patterns comes a multitude of colour. When pairing your summer clothes with deeper colours, the trick is to draw out a deeper hue. If, for example, your top or dress features a print on a black backdrop, pairing it with black is an easy way to tone it down and make your look work for fall.

Add season appropriate accessories

When the weather really turns chilly, simply turn to autumnal accessories to update your look. Nothing screams autumn more than a hat and scarf, which will serve as the pièce de résistance.

Don’t get too hung up on rules

If there’s one thing we preach here at Libra Clothing, it’s to wear what makes you feel great! This season, we say ignore the rules. Instead of worrying if an outfit is season appropriate, instead focus on it being weather appropriate.
